Engineering Journey
The Complete Trajectory of Muhammad Usman Munir
The Go-Kart Vision Stack
Sharper and more focused than ever. Currently tackling complex VRAM limitations for the physical Go-Kart stack by actively iterating on version 26 of depth models combined with YOLO object detection. The goal is precise 3D spatial estimation of cars and pedestrians using limited compute. Simultaneously working on refining character, communication, and leadership to build exceptionally large-scale systems.
AI/ML Intern at Directorate of IT
Joined the Directorate of IT internships for students as an AI/Machine Learning Intern. Currently spearheading the development of an Agentic RAG Chatbot designed for the Center of AI and Professional Skills Development (CAIPSD).
HIL Simulation & Physical Bridging
Transitioned the autonomous stack from pure simulation to a physical Go-Kart. Budget constraints fueled innovation: created a custom Rover Base RTK system (sub-5cm accuracy) using GNSS-SDR and NASA ephemeris data. Engineered an EPS spoofing system by hacking a Suzuki Alto's CAN bus, simulated entirely in Proteus. Finally, bridged MATLAB to ROS to CARLA via Ubuntu to achieve true Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation over these months.
AWS Cloud Club IUB - First Summit
Successfully organized and executed the inaugural event, "Introducing AWS Cloud Club IUB | Exploring AWS Sagemaker". Secured official permission and a recognition letter signed by the Dean Faculty of Computing (Dost Muhammad Khan) prior to launch, establishing a solid foundation for the technical team.
Recognition from Dr. Ghulam Gillanie
Presented the fully operational 4-component CARLA simulation stack (State Estimation, Localization, Vision, Motion Planning) as a semester project. Dr. Ghulam Gillanie heavily appreciated the deep technical effort and immediately offered me a position to work under his guidance. The validation supercharged my confidence to build the physical car.
Captaincy & Core Commander Visit
Applied and was selected as the Captain of the AWS Cloud Club at IUB in November (serving a one-year term until Oct 2026). Prior to this, on Oct 21, 2025, presented a military-modified version of MotionCanvas at the IUB Tech Expo 2025 during the official visit of the Core Commander Bahawalpur.
Oracle Certifications & Cisco Linux
Participated in Oracle's Race to Certification campaign, successfully passing proctored exams to earn the Oracle Generative AI Professional and Oracle Developer Professional certifications. Prior to this in August, strengthened command-line expertise by completing Linux Essentials via Virtual University in collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy.
The Senior Flutter Role
Was offered a Senior Flutter Developer position at a software house. Upon evaluation, realized the environment ran on pressure rather than proper engineering mentorship. I actively chose to quit and reject shortcuts, prioritizing deep, fundamental learning over chaotic, unguided app assembly.
NAVTTC & Mobile Innovations
Completed the Mobile App Development course by NAVTTC at Dev Castle. Collaborated directly with the instructor for 3 months to build robust Flutter applications. Developed AirGesture for cross-device sharing and PersonaLens, which heavily utilized computer vision for the precise identification of biometric iris patterns.
Merit Scholarships & Financial Freedom
During my 4th semester, my rigorous academic performance paid off. Applied for and was awarded the CM Honahaar Scholarship and the Prime Minister's Laptop Scheme (received Feb 2026). Both were strictly CGPA merit-based, rendering my education entirely free from the 5th semester onwards.
The Mathematical Reality Check
Received a second DLSEI Coursera License. Realizing my early autonomous stack plans were wildly unrealistic, I restarted from absolute fundamentals. Completed UCSD's Data Structures & Algorithms, followed by Andrew Ng's Deep Learning Specialization. Proceeded to the Self-Driving Cars Specialization, handwriting the entire curriculum to internalize the complex mathematics of autonomous systems.
Expo Dominance & The Autonomous Spark
Conceived the Self-Driving Car project with Moeez, conducting a massive teardown of Tesla's FSD pipeline. Concurrently, MotionCanvas dominated the regional circuit across multiple dates: selected as a Top 5 project for South Punjab's First AI Expo at Multan on Nov 7, 2024, presented at the 2nd Women Economic Empowerment Expo on Nov 13, 2024, and secured 1st Position with a trophy at Degree College for Women Bahawalpur on Dec 21, 2024.
IBM Watsonx Hackathon (Global Top 100)
Engineered a foundational RAG system for corporate environments, allowing companies to query their uploaded documents via a chatbot interface. The architecture qualified in the Top 100 submissions globally, earning an IBM Tech Conference Pass for Las Vegas.
Google Career Certifications
Awarded the Google Career Certificates scholarship from IUB. Completed both the Google IT Support Professional Certificate and the Google Advanced Data Analytics Professional Certificate, including all intensive sub-courses.
First Public Recognition
Presented our 2nd-semester project, MotionCanvas, for the Artificial Intelligence subject at the AI Expo IUB. Received immense recognition from teaching staff and individuals, cementing my ambition to build at scale.
The First Knowledge Sprint
Secured my first DLSEI Coursera License. Executed a massive knowledge acquisition phase, completing deep dives in C programming, Linux CLI, Git/GitHub, Python for Data Science, Software Engineering, IBM Applied AI, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Watson APIs. This phase laid down the hard technical bedrock.
The Starting Line
Entered BS AI with deep, unstructured knowledge of hardware, OS limits, and cybersecurity tools. Completed the DigiSkills Freelancing and Graphics Design course (DSTP 2.0). Made mistakes fueled by raw overconfidence, but the underlying drive was immutable: I wanted to engineer something exceptionally big.
